Perhaps the most obvious success that Bill Gates has had has been in the financial category. In fact, without this success, Bill may not have been able to create the global business he has today or begin his philanthropic works that now are such a great part of his life.

The beginning of Bill's monetary success started when he began selling public stock in the Microsoft Corporation. The value immediately skyrocketed, making Bill a millionaire in just moments.

From that time, Bill continued to grow his company, and therefore continued to increase the profits that he made. Starting in 1993, Forbes 400 listed Bill as the World's Richest Man, and he stayed at that spot until 2007, and then he was named it again in 2009.

But it is not only from Microsoft that Bill receives large payouts. Bill also has begun investing in other companies, such as Corbis (a digital image company) and Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffett's investment company). With all of these incomes, Bill's wealth was marked at $101 billion, causing him to be called a "centibillionaire." (Fridson 2001).
